The Scallop Taking Over Showhouses

The scallop making waves. This spring’s showhouses unveiled a flurry of standout spaces with a shared affinity for one defining detail: the Dorset Velvet Scallop. From grand draperies to tailored upholstery, read on to discover how designers are embracing its plush curves to add softness and structure in equal measure.

Ahead of the curve. In last year's Pasadena Showcase House of Design, Samantha Williams brought a playful twist to her Tea Room with clever Dorset Velvet Scallop cushion banding in Coral — a geometric flourish that added contrast and character amid a whimsical mix of tassels, skirted fringe, and hand-clipped velvet borders.

A window with a view, The Jane Group's bedroom drapery in this year's Southeastern Showhouse sported a statement-making edge with the Dorset Velvet Scallop in Coral — harmonzing the dustry reds around the room.

Another Southeastern Showhouse favorite, the same Dorset Velvet Scallop graced the skirt of a patterned slipper chair in Alcott Interior's bathroom — paired thoughtfully with the Harbour Crown Knot Frog in a Semi Custom hue chosen to match its soft Coral hue.

Breaking away from the Coral craze, White Couch Design opted for the Dorset Velvet Scallop in Aquamarine in this year's Lake Forest Showhouse, creating another striking drapery detail in the inviting Mahjong Room.
