A Bold New Chapter

When Courtney McLeod of Right Meets Left Interior Design was tasked with transforming a centuries-old home in Massachusetts, she brought vibrant color and a contemporary edge to its historic roots. Guided by owner Robert Hartwell’s inspired vision, they worked together to tell a story of resilience and beauty in every room.

Peeking through the sunny dining area, we open with the family room — the heart of daily life. Custom Studio details star in this curated mix of pattern and vibrant color. An eye-catching Orsay Bullion Fringe skirts the fuschia sofa in a contrasting baby blue, while each cheery curtain sports a Bespoke Normandy Beaded Fringe leading edge in a coordinating magenta palette.

Another breathtaking place to gather, Paulette's Parlor is dedicated to Hartwell's late aunt, honoring her memory with a regal palette and playful joie de vivre.

Lush Kensington Onion Tassel Fringe in Orchid frames each floor to ceiling window, accompanied by a plethora of purple from the Aurelia Collection in Wisteria.

The scheme continues into a bedroom for Hartwell's mother, adorned with a mix of rich Amethyst and deep Raisin details.

"I am particularly proud of Paulette's Parlor and his mom's bedroom. I took a more traditional approach to the parlor, which allowed me to incorporate dressmaker details such as the curtain trim, light shade trims, and pillow trims from Samuel & Sons. These elements elevate the design and draw you into the fantasy of the space. For the mom's bedroom, I adore the unusual pairing of the wallpaper, fabrics, and Samuel & Sons trims." - Courtney McLeod

Another bedroom is designed with Hartwell's future family in mind. The Calisto Triple Bead Fringe in Coral dances down each leading edge and across the seat of an inviting ottoman.

The study is dedicated to Hartwell's father, an homage to the values of history, education, and work ethic he instilled in Robert. It is designed to envelop one with a sense of possibility and beauty, from the Barcelona Striped Fringe in Amazon that skirts each drape to the Aria Silk Brush Fringe in Emerald that encompasses two throw pillows.

"My fundamental thesis is that colorful design has the power to create joy in our lives. I am truly lucky that I get to make people happy for a living and honored to be able to share that vision with a broader audience."
