The Beginning 1945
1940’s – The “Outlet Linen Store” is established by Michael “Michel” Cohen, the family patriarch in NYC’s garment district.
1955
1950’s – Michel’s vision evolves the store to include trimming and lace in addition to its stock of tablecloths, napkins and linens
1962
Samuel ‘Sam” Cohen joins his father and brother at M&J Trimming.
1965
1960’s –The shop is renamed M&J Trimming.
1970
1960s-1980s M&J Trimming is a popular destination for fashion designers, artists, students and other creatives.
1994
1994- Sam opens M&J Décor next door to M&J Trimming, selling trimming exclusively for interiors
1996
1996–M&J Décor participates in its first interior design exhibition for ASID
1998
1998 – Sam relocates M&J Décor to Third Avenue, next to the Decoration & Design (D&D) Building
1999
Sam’s eldest son Michael joins the company.
2002
Sam’s sons, Hymie and Joseph join M&J Decor
2003
M&J Décor is aptly renamed Samuel & Sons Passementerie
2005
The “Sons” define their business roles, each using their strengths.
2006
2006 –Samuel & Sons expands their in-stock collection to offer custom trimming/u>
2007
2007 – Samuel & Sons partners with designer Lori Weitzner to create groundbreaking collections
2009
2009 – Samuel & Sons opens second showroom in Chicago’s famous Merchandise Mart
2010
November 2010 – Marisa Gutmacher comes aboard as Design Director
2011
2011 – Samuel & Sons introduces its first collection with designer Michael S. Smith
2011
2011 – Samuel & Sons debuts Printemps, its first all-weather collection
2011
2011- We nailed it with Lucente, the first nailhead trimming collection in the industry
2012
2012 – Samuel & Sons debuts at Maison & Objet/Deco-Off in Paris
2012
2012 – Samuel & Sons launches first collection with renowned designer Roger Thomas
2012
November 2012 – Samuel & Sons builds its hospitality presence at the Boutique Design New York Show (BDNY)
2012
May 2012 – Samuel & Sons shows at HD “Hospitality and Design” Expo in Las Vegas
2012
2012 – The innovative Corinthia collection debuts
2013
2013 – The Custom Department expands
2013
2013 – Samuel & Sons launches its third showroom in London’s esteemed Chelsea Harbour Design Centre
2014
2014 – The Toscana collection is introduced
2014
2014-The industry is swept away by the nautically inspired Harbour collection
2015
2015- The innovative Épinglé collection is launched
