A Fresh Take on Federal

In this 1930s Federal-style home, masterful color and bespoke finishes set the tone. Designer Tori Johnston honors the architecture’s classical foundation while introducing layered pattern and joyfully placed trim. From playful piping to chic fringe, each application feels strikingly transformational and enduringly at home.

In the cocktail lounge, the Ensemble Beaded Border in Pale Gold crowns the Barcelona Striped Fringe in Amazon, skirting two velvet armchairs and building on the interior's jungle-like vibrancy. Tying the room's jewel tones together, the Orsay Silk Tassel Fringe in Gold, Rose, Iris, and Sky adorns each Roman shade and leading edge.

Centered in the serene sitting room, the Rouen Tassel Fringe in Sprig encircles a generous ottoman, pulling in hues from the greenery outside.

Patterned throw pillows are framed with the Aurelia Brush Fringe in Bisque, while a pair of coordinating footstools are embellished with the Margaux Beaded Fringe in Forêt.

Inside the Americana boys bedroom, the MDS Stripe Piping in Red by Mark D. Sikes adds a crisp, colorblocked edge to the chaise lounge, while his Stripe Border brings cohesion to the drapery with a tailored leading edge in the same coordinating hue.
