From her Louisiana-based boutique, Eros, designer Erin Romair Schaumburg has created a destination for joyful design and fearless flair. Fringe cascades from layered curtains, tassels command entire rooms, and bold embellishments are embraced without pause. Her spaces are a love letter to the power of passementerie, an unapologetic celebration of rich layering and dazzling details.

Who or what has most influenced your love of embellishment?
Well, that’s easy. The person who has influenced my love for embellishment the most was my mother, of course. My mother grew up quite poor, but she always had exquisite taste, so she would have my grandmother, a seamstress, sew her the most beautiful clothing and anything that was fabulous in the windows on Canal Street in New Orleans.
Does Louisiana shape your instinct for richness and celebration in design?
Definitely, Louisiana has shaped me, especially growing up in New Orleans. The Garden District is full of fabulous designs. Our French roots and history is something we all grew up with. New Orleans is the perfect blend of French influence and southern warmth.

How do you want people to feel when they |
When do trimmings enter your interior schemes? Are they ever a starting point, or do you look for the perfect flourish after finalizing your fabrics?
Originally, I worked in fashion, selling couture gowns, so when I design a room, I often see it first in my mind’s eye, fully formed, like a dream waiting to come to life. The trim is the enchantment, the little flourish that pulls everything together, the whisper of magic that transforms a room from beautiful to unforgettable. It doesn’t just finish the window; it finishes the story. Sometimes we find a trim that is so magical that the whole entire room is based off of it. Other times we lay everything out and the perfect trim enters at just the right time.

Your projects have a grand trimming presence, from jumbo tassels to swaths of skirt fringe, yet somehow your applications never feel forced or take over the room. How do you make bold embellishment feel so at home?
Fringed drapery has undeniably become an adored signature of so many of your spaces. Tell us what you love about that mid-panel application, and what it achieves visually that a traditional hem or leading edge does not. |
From those distinguishing drapery applications to classic seating skirts, the Édelie Linen Tassel Skirt Fringe makes a repeated appearance in your interiors. Tell us why it’s a finishing touch you’ve turned to time and time again.
The Édelie Linen Tassel Skirt Fringe stands alone. There’s nothing that compares to it. It’s a showstopper. She is the bell of the ball so of course, why wouldn’t I use her on everything. She gets invited to every party.
Another trimming choice that’s caught our eye is the Positano Jumbo Tassel Fringe. What drew you to this oversized adornment for plush pillows and bed canopies alike?
That’s my personal favorite. There’s something truly special about the Positano Jumbo Tassel Fringe, super friendly, really bold, and makes a statement while remaining down to earth. It lifts your spirits the moment you see it.
Key tassels, chair ties, and tassel tiebacks define so many darling moments in your designs. How do you know when you’ve found the perfect tassel?
I think that depends on the client. From my many years in clothing, you learn people's style. You might push them out of their comfort zone a little bit, but for the most part you pick a tassel based on their personality. For me it’s the Bagatelle Double Tassel Tieback [by Timothy Corrigan]!!
Your interiors are the epitome of tradition with a twist. What is that “twist” that keeps these spaces feeling so fresh?
I love blending timeless French elegance with a quirky, playful spirit. I work with traditional fabrics and antiques, often in light, airy palettes, but I bring a youthful, slightly Bohemian touch that keeps spaces cozy, practical, and family-friendly. There’s a whimsical joy in what I create, rooms that honor history while feeling fresh, lively, and full of personality, leaving people happy the moment they step inside.
